I was told that the aircraft used these sextants had an opening in top of fuselage where you removed some sort plate and then inserted periscope part sextant to take readings off stars. The government paid a small fortune for this sextant, so by comparison, I m practically giving it away at price. I assume this means it has been tested and is in operable condition, not used since was.
What a fantastic, usable piece of history, aviation memorabilia, optical instrumentation, or just great display. It even comes with its service tag.
Here is a really neat item. That even if I did know how to use it, don't think have room here list everything it does. It also has some other information such as part numbers, etc.
I m not sure, but think this sextant is Vietnam era, or perhaps a little bit earlier later. On this tag, it says, navy along with af I m not sure that is what called, but reads, serviceable-material the so thought might be called. Due to its military origin, this item is for sale within the USA n citizens only. Current, and has so many knobs, levers, multi-colored lenses, lights, a timer, etc.
I don't have a way to test it, so can confirm this. I was told that these sextants were used in the big military aircraft such as KC-130, b-52, etc. It operates on 28 volts . Is this the tail number of aircraft it came out of.
